Please join the WAEE for our October 10, 2017 monthly meeting at Rosedale Dairy. Please note the date has changed from October 4, as was announced at the last WAEE meeting.
Rosendale Dairy is the largest dairy in Wisconsin and home to over 8,000 cows. As you may (or may not) imagine the milking operation and associated technologies are mind boggling. Beyond that, the environmental challenges that come with managing a herd of that size would seem insurmountable. But extraordinary steps have been taken to ensure that this farm remains on a sound environmental footing. Included among those steps was the design and build of a world-class 1.3 megawatt biodigester consuming over 350 tons of manure each day. The annual result, electrical production of close to 12 million Kilowatt hours and thermal production of 12.5 million BTUs https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=neV_SGCrAGk
Rosendale Dairy does more than just adhere to environmental standards. There is a consistent effort to do more as demonstrated by the creation of a public education center, a research laboratory for UW-Oshkosh students and staff, and a training facility for future biogas operators.
We anticipate this to be one of the more interesting site visits of the year. Register early and impress a friend and bring a guest (or your boss :-) Remember, first time attendees roll for free !
