The new Maplewood School is the largest zero-net energy middle/intermediate school in the country. Sustainability is at the heart of the design. The all-electric, zero-net energy facility is expected to exceed ASHRAE 90.1-2013 standards by 45% and aims to meet or surpass LEED BD+C: Schools v4.1 certification.
The building features 160 geothermal wells, a 1.14-megawatt rooftop solar array with 2,747 panels, and independent classroom zoning for optimal thermal comfort. These systems not only reduce environmental impact but also serve as hands-on educational tools. With abundant daylight, advanced ventilation and strong connections to nature, the school promotes health, well-being and environmental stewardship.
